4.2kW Solar & 10kWh Battery in Melksham

Melksham, Wiltshire (SN12) — 4-bed detached

A family home in Melksham with high evening electricity usage. The homeowners wanted to maximise self-consumption and reduce their dependence on grid electricity.

The Challenge

The south-facing roof had a dormer window reducing available space. The family used most electricity between 5pm and 10pm when solar generation had stopped.

Our Solution

We designed a 10-panel array around the dormer, maximising the available south-facing area. A 10kWh Sigenergy battery stores daytime surplus for evening use. The hybrid inverter manages solar, battery, and grid automatically.

The Result

Self-consumption increased from an estimated 35% (solar only) to 82% with the battery. Monthly bills dropped from £185 to approximately £45. The system paid back the battery cost within 14 months of additional savings.

“Matt designed the system around our dormer beautifully — you would not know the panels were split into two sub-arrays. The battery has been transformative for our evening usage.”
